At around 10:15 PM UTC, the duo posted a screenshot of what they claim to be a rooted HTC Incredible. No details were released on how they obtained root access, but few are calling this out as a prank. This particular phone has taken quite some time for the dev community to root, but as we’ve seen in the past, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Jake Day says that a download with instructions will be posted soon.

UPDATE: Perhaps the fact that today is Memorial Day has made me a bit overly congratulative (is that even a word?). According to a post by boostdscoob himself over on XDA, the root is a load of crock. Here’s what he had to say about it:

Ok, heres the deal people..
I had absolutely nothing to do with this, so me being mentioned is sign #1 this isnt Jake. Jake wouldnt give me credit for something i had nothing to do with, and i dont have my incredible yet, so again clue #1

second, Jake does not come to XDA anymore..
look at his post count.

also, the original post on alldroid, is by Jake Day.
Jake is Jake’s screen name.

The picture is fake, i can guarantee you that.
the poster is not Jake. if you dont believe me, contact him, or me directly.
this person/people have gone to a great length to try to embarass a proven developer. he has all but lost interest in the android community as a result of this.

Microsoft and Verizon are set to announce some new phones today, but that didn’t stop the LG Aloha from squeezing its way into a Verizon inventory slot. PhoneArena received an anonymous tip today with a nice set of screenshots that should make a good bunch of you happy. The VS740 – Aloha’s traditional model number – is closer to being launched now that Verizon has an entry for it in its ever-growing database of Android phones.

We first saw mention of the phone last month via the FCC, and we were also treated to a leak of its user agent profile earlier this month. The VS710, which is the handset we first reported on, seems to be the same as the VS740 per this Wi-Fi certificate. Confused yet?

To put it short, the VS740 looks to be the rumored Aloha, while the C710 could end up being an entirely different phone – Android or otherwise – altogether. Whatever the case is, I’m happy to report that we could be looking at a Q2 release for this phone according to other sources of PhoneArena’s.

Anyone following Android can tell you that current holder of worst kept secret is Verizon’s forthcoming handset, the HTC Incredible. The tiny bits of information hitting the internet have gone from a slow trickle into a downpour. Late last week, the Incredible was found in the Cellebrite system. The last time this happened, it was for the Motorola Devour. A few short weeks later, the phone was formally announced by Big Red.

Over the weekend, we saw a handful of tweets from Verizon’s VZWOffers account with references to the handset. Without officially confirming anything, they do nothing to play dumb or pull the old “We cannot comment on products that have not been announced” deal. Today sees us getting a screenshot of some activation instructions for the phone.

At this point, it’s just getting silly. C’mon Verizon, announce the phone and get it over with.

Motorola is adding another device into its Android arsenal. The Motorola Devour, officially announced on Wednesday, will be available on Verizon Wireless starting in March.

At a glance, the Devour has a similar form to the Droid. Inside, however, this phone is a very different beast.

Motorola Devour: The Hardware

Like the Droid, the Motorola Devour features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The two phones’ similarities pretty much end there.

The Devour has a 3.1-inch, 320-by-480 pixel touchscreen. The resolution is comparable to the iPhone but lower than the Droid, which boasts a 3.7-inch, 480-by-854 pixel display. While specifics about the Devour’s processor have yet to be revealed, the phone is expected to be more of a midrange Android option compared to Droid’s higher-end status. It’s rumored to run on the Qualcomm 600-MHz MSM7627.

The Devour has an optical trackpad directly beneath its display. It’s said to pack a 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom, along with an accelerometer and dual microphones for noise cancellation. The Devour comes preloaded with an 8GB microSD card.

Motorola Devour: The Software

Motorola’s Devour will offer a drastically different software experience than the Droid and many other Android phones. Like the Cliq, the Devour comes with Motorola’s Motoblur interface on top of the stock operating system. It’ll be the first Android device on Verizon to feature the Motoblur skin.

Motoblur changes the very look and feel of the phone, adding live streams of information onto the home screen through a series of custom widgets. Social network status updates, e-mail, and other messaging tools are all integrated into the desktop with a unique graphical look not seen in the standard Android OS. Motoblur also provides automated backups of user data and phone settings.

One possible software downside: Reports suggest the Devour will ship with Android 1.6 rather than the more recent Android 2.1 release that debuted on the Nexus One or even the Android 2.0 release introduced with the Droid. Motorola has yet to confirm this.

If the Devour does ship with Android 1.6, one would imagine that a 2.1 update would be rolled out at some point in the coming months. With that said, though, Verizon and Motorola have yet to update any other Android handsets to 2.0 or 2.1 thus far, so it’s tough to say how long the wait might be.

Pricing of the Devour hasn’t yet been released, but most analysts expect the Devour’s to sell for less than the Droid’s $199.99 pricetag. As you might expect, a Verizon voice and data plan will be required with all Devour purchases. The cheapest possible option will be about $70 a month.
